Nightwing Posted: Jan 7, 2007 8:15 PM
He looked up from the shadows, and for the first time in a long time, he smiled. Looks like things were gonna be looking up a bit more now. All it took was a little jail time. Gee there's a commercial for ya'.
"Love ya' too, darlin'. Always and forever."
He shook his head lightly as her pleading voice asked him to find her father. Grayson had done his due for the night. It was time for Nightwing to get his turn at the table.
Flipping through the air, he landed on a giant piece of concrete. It cracked as his boots came down on it as he surveyed the scene. He knew most of the GCPD by heart.
There was a basement entrance near his left, Gordon might've gone there if the opportunity to escape didn't present itself. But then again...knowing Gordon he wouldn't have escaped if the opportunity did present itself. He'd be too busy trying to save his cops.
We gotta get that man in a cape.... Dick thought lightly.
He flipped through the air again, hearing a groan behind him. Someone was buried in the rubble. Tossing broken bits of what used to be walls and whatnot aside, he saw the large body of Bullock laying there, groaning.
Putting his arm over his shoulder he dragged Bullock over to a sturdy wall and sat him up against it as his eyes fluttered open, "Rat bastards and yer capes..."
Nightwing covered Harvey's mouth. "Can it, Detective. Stay here and keep your head down until dawn. All hell is about to break loose and your only hope of survival is to keep your head down while us rat bastards and our capes clean house."
Nightwing got up and walked away, searching for the enterance to the basement. "C'mon Gordon. Keep your mustache on, we've got alot more loons to put away before you throw in the towel." he muttered quietly.

Hearing voices from above, Joker knew he wasn't alone. He raised an eyebrow and looked at Gordon. "Keep your mouth shut, " Joker whispered.
He crept up the stairs and cracked the door so he could see who was there. 'Nightwing, ' he thought. 'He's no Batman, but he'll do.'
Joker went back downstairs and grabbed Gordon. Pushing him under the staircase, Joker kept his gun pointed at the commissioner. Looking around, he found a piece of pipe laying on the floor. He picked it up and tossed it across the room to let Nightwing know where to look. All Joker had to do now was wait.

Cobblepot watched as Harvey just stood in silence. He knew his two personalities were at war. That could only mean one thing: a coin toss.
Sure enough, just as the thought entered his mind the coin was in the air. It stayed there for what seemed like an eternity. To think that his fate would be determined by what side Harvey's silver dollar landed on was enough to make him break out into a sweat.
Two-Face turned the coin over onto the back of his hand and all Cobblepot could do was wait for the result... wait for his fate.

Noah now knew what being God must feel like. Flying over what was left of Gotham, he watched as his combined army of Super-Villains, Kobra grunts, HIVE soldiers and League of Assassins ninjas destroyed everything in their path. It was hard to get any solid figures but from what he could get the GCPD had 30-35% of it numbers dead or wounded with 15-20% considered MIA. Heading over to what was left of the GCPD headquarters, he let his mind soar out of his body and, with an ease that he was only able to achieve thanks to his new condition, he hijacked three Lexcorp satellites. Training their eyes on Gotham, he left their images flow into his mind, giving him a view of whatever he wanted. He could see everything, Prometheus fighting Black Canary and Ravager, Captain Cold about to 'ice' the Flash, his small army leveling whole city blocks with it's innocents still inside the collapsing buildings. However it was two things that caught his mind. The Drake household and the GCPD headquarters. Deathstroke was currently fighting Robin and it looked like a batplane of some kind was trying to airlift Jack Drake and his guests to saftey. However it was the new player at GCPD headquarters that caught his eye. Nightwing. Noah had thought that Grayson was still in jail. Oh well, regardless he could still work this to his advantage. Every agent of his had a small earpiece that he could transmit instructions on. While he had yet to use it, he found now that even this Chaos needed some guidance. Splicing into the frequecny that he used, he settled down on one of the few remaining buildings near the GCPD headquarters and began to speak.
"Deathstroke, sorry to do this to you but i've got to pull you off of Robin. Someone else called the boy wonder and, no offense but they scare me more then you do. Besides, Grayson is down here at the GCPD so you can off him. Also, Lady Vic, hurry that cute british butt of your down here if you want your pound of flesh from him. Prometheus, watch out for Black Canary, she's a meta as well as a martial artist. She can't beat you your way, so she'll try and use her sonic scream. I suggest taking it out. Cold, well nothing for you, keep up the good work friend. Everyone, you have your orders. That is all."
Keeping one of his new satellites trained on Nightwing and the GCPD, Noah rose into the air once more and headed towards the Drake house. Not because he planned on killing Robin, oh no, he had much smaller game in mind. The kind that left their son behind while trying to flee. With a grin crossing his now Silver face, he ran several of his new neural subprocessors and pulled up a list of every hideout Penguin had. As the Calculator he kept a list of every villains hideout that they had ever used. Hell he knew more of them then some of the villains that 'owned' them did. However it was the penguin, which ment that each one was kept up and each one had a telephone. It was those phone lines that he hacked into. Now in every hideout and safehouse that was owned by Oswald Cobblepot, the Penguin, the phones rang waiting for an answer. Multitasking took on a whole new meaning when you were part machiene, he should have done this ages ago.

Nightwing heard the sound of the pipe. He began to head towards the steps down to the basement as the inner voice stopped him.
No Nightwing, It's Too Easy. Remember, When You Start To Feel Safe....It's Time To Worry.
He made his first idiot mistake of the night. He ignored the voice. He had to save the Commissioner. He couldn't waste time trying to find another way when Gordon's life was on the line. Number One rule of hostage work: The more time you spend is the less time the hostage has.
He began to descend down the steps, twirling out his escrimas just in case. He moved with the lightest foot steps, trying to make sure the element of surprise remained on his side.
Afterall, how well could an albino with cherry red lips and grass green hair be hidden? He was practically a rainbow.

He could see Nightwing's feet on the boards as he descended the steps. With one hand over Gordon's mouth, the other holding a gun to his head, Joker had a decision to make... give up the commissioner and take off into the city to hide, or take Gordon with him, which meant being slowed down. By the time Nightwing was down the stairs he'd made his choice.
He wouldn't get another shot, so it had to work. He picked up a big piece of rubble and threw it at the back of the hero's head. Joker watched in anticipation as it crossed the room and finally made contact with the back of Nightwing's head. While the man pitched forward Joker threw Gordon at the bird, took out the lighter he'd acquired recently, and ran up the stairs. Once he got there he brought out that bottle of vodka he'd been saving, a handkerchief coming out the top of the bottle. Joker lit the piece of cloth, gave an evil laugh and shouted down the steps. "Happy New Year!"
He slammed the bottle down onto the staircase and in an instant they were covered in flames. Joker shut the door to the basement, locked it, and left the way he came, whistling a tune, satisfied with what he's done.

Two-Face Posted: Jan 8, 2007 7:44 PM
Two-Face raised his hand to look at the coin underneath it. The result of the toss: tails.
"Sorry, pal. Gonna need to borrow your wings. You won't need a jet anyway, seeing as how GCPD doesn't exactly let their inmates use their planes for get-a-ways on the weekends."
Penguin tried to stand in protest but all Two-Face did was raise his gun and pull back the hammer. Penguin sat back down. They both turned their heads to the phone when they heard it ring. Penguin looked to Two-Face for permission. He gave Cobblepot the go-ahead by motioning toward the phone with his gun. He walked over to it with him and stood behind him the whole time.
"One wrong move... one cry for help... and you're dead, Mayor. Do you understand?"

The second time in one night. For the second time in one whole night he was smacked in the back of his head with a brick. At least this time he wasn't sent unconscious. But he was going to have a splitting headache in the morning.
He twirled to see his attacker, but all he saw was the Commissioner coming straight at him. Catching Gordon in both arms, he lifted his head to find where that crazed clown had gone, only to see him at the top of the steps with a bottle. Somehow he had a feeling that wasn't going to be used as celebratory wine.
In within the next second the staircase was in flames. He turned his eyes to Jim, "Stay behind me!" he demanded over the flames.
He twirled out two batarangs, clicking them both onto On-Contact-Destruct mode. The 'rangs twirled out of his fingers, one hit the base of the stairs while the other hit the top, blowing the steps away. He'd made sure to shield Jim with his body while boards flew in all directions. He twirled out two more 'rangs and clicked on onto the destruct setting, tossing it at the door, blowing it clear out of sight as well.
He put an arm around Jim, "Hold on!" he called out, then he lifted his other arm and a grapple launched from his gauntlet straight out of the basement, latching into the wall a few feet above Bullock's head.
He pulled himself and the Commissioner out. Right now he wanted nothing more than to grab Jim and get him out of there. But that wouldn't do any good. There were still countless cops in the building. He'd have to have the building evacuated. But first....
He casted his eyes over his shoulder seeing the Clown who had been strolling as if he were taking a Sunday walk in the park. Using the fourth batarang he had taken out, he arced it through the air, knocking the lunatic in the back of the head.
"Leaving so soon? This New Year's party has just begun."

The sudden knock in the back of the head sent Joker forward onto the cement. His gun fell out of his hand and slid across the ground. Joker, getting to his feet and rubbing the back his head, started to chuckle.
"Guess I had that one coming, eh? I just thought you and the commish would wanna catch up. I didn't want to ruin your male bonding time, " Joker said with a grin. He tried to usse his body to block the fact he was picking up his weapon, then turned and pointed it at Nightwing.
"I wish I could stay... but you know, places to go, people to kill."

Seeing the result of the coin toss, Cobblepot's heart sank. So this is how it was going to end. He'd be staying here is this dying city, and maybe even die himself. All the work he'd done for his image, all the work he'd done for his business... his whole career was destroyed.
Just then the phone rang. It startled him. He looked over at the phone and then to Harvey. Harvey motioned for him to get up and answer it. After the typical death threat for saying the wrong thing Cobblepot picked it up.
"Oswald Cobblepot."

In one motion a batarang was in his hand and out of his hand, soaring at the Joker's gun-hand, but it barely missed, skimming his skin leaving light scratches as it did so, sticking at least half an inch into the wall behind him. That thing wasn't coming out any time soon.
Nightwing then twirled out both of his escrimas, and twisted his body into a fighting stance, never losing eye contact with the mad man. "Really? I was hoping you'd stay around for at least.....oh I don't know....let's say 10-20? Where you can have plenty of 'male-bonding' time with Calc."

The scratches from the batarang stung, but it wasn't anything to cry over. Joker aimed for Nighwing, pulling the trigger twice, but missed. Using the seconds Nightwing was busy dodging bullets, Joker took off down an alley.
Once he got to the end of the alley he ran across the street and hopped a wooden fence into someone's backyard. He could hear Nightwing coming after him. He turned and fired twice more through the fence. Joker turned and ran to the backdoor of the house he was at, broke the glass, and unlocked the door. The house was pitch black, which he was happy about. He also knew there were children, judging from the toys in the yard.
Joker made his way to the second level of the house, peeking into rooms, looking for his hostage. Eventually he found her. There was a little girl sleeping quietly in her bed when Joker crossed the room, covered her mouth, and grinned at her as her eyes flew open in terror.
"Shh... I'm playing hide and seek. You're going to help me win."

As the bullets crashed through the fence Nightwing ran into a dive to avoid them, then caught himself in a roll and was back on his feet. With one swift flip he was over the fence and saw Joker running into the home. He could see through the windows there wasn't an ounce of light in the house. Which was just fine with him.
He could see in the dark.
Joker couldn't.
Tapping the side of his mask, he activated the green Nightvision lenses, compliments of the Wayne Tech Star Lite program. He peered in seeing the mad clown run up the stairs. He was probably searching for another damn hostage. Clown couldn't fight his own battles. Nothing aggravated Dick more than a hostage situation.
He couldn't just run in fists swinging. He wasn't Superman, afterall. He needed to use the shadows and stealth to his advantage. He did a handless cartwheel through the air, landing atop a fence, balancing Flying Grayson style, before flipping onto a garage roofing. He climbed up the side of the house effortlessly before climbing into a bathroom window. He peered out into the hallway, seeing the doors lining both sides.
But only one was open.
At this point in time, he would normally send a signal to the police so when he got Joker out of the building they could easily nab him.
One small problem.
The police station was in ruins.
So this time he'd have to do the nabbing himself.
No sweat.
He went back into the bathroom and climbed out the window, climbing across the side of the structure to the window of the only door that was open. Hoping he was correct in assuming Joker left it open. He threw his legs back as he held on with his arms and smashed through the window, landing crouched, instantly able to see everything due to the lenses.
He tossed another batarang, this time sticking the clowns wrist. "Let the kid go, clown. Or the next one will get your throat."

"Ozzie, so wonderful to hear from you. How are you doing?"
Concentrating now on the phone line that had been used, it was a simple matter of tracing the line to find out where the Penguin was. Thermal scans showed that there were two people, which was odd. Filling it aside for later reference, Noah went back to the task at hand.
"Quite the New Year's party eh my friend? I think that the fireworks just give it that extra special touch. Of course, the small army that's rampaging through the city helps as well. All in all a success. Or close to, sure I should have told you what I was planning but it slipped my mind. Can you blame me, I was busy. That gunfight you had your goons get into with the police certainly put you in a nasty spot eh? Luckily for you, all of your men and the police they were shooting at are dead, which means only you and I know of that little slip. You're Society Ozzie, we take care of our own. So you don't get to be mayor of Gotham, big deal the city sucked anyway. Too much of a rodent problem. But with my help and the pity and goodwill we can generate from this night, well you could become Governor or even a Senator. That's quite a step-up don't you think?"
It had only taken him a few moments to reach the Drake house, however those batplanes were faster then Noah thought. It had already taken off and was making good time. Of course, it was just a remote controlled device while Noah was a cyber God. Taking off after it, he hijacked a military satelitte that was just orbiting over Gotham. Quite the good 'luck' it was. The missles and lasers would be too much for what Noah wanted, however it did have a device that was designed for the sole purpose of frying a crafts electronics into so much junk. That would be enough to bring that plane to a halt and send it dropping. Which would be an easy job of plucking one Jack Drake from the plummeting craft and leaving the others to a firey death. Oh well, sucks to be them.

Captain Boomerang Posted: Jan 9, 2007 4:26 AM
Well, karma sure did have a funny sense of humor. After dodging the OMACs for as long as they were around, then the Kobra and HIVE grunts after the OMACs vanished, he had managed to find himself watching a classic showdown. The Flash vs. Captain Cold. And it looked like Cold was about to win. Hence, karma. Here was the man who had taken him in after his real father had died and treated him like a son, about to finally defeat his greatest foe, the man who had humiliated Owen's own real father, the first Captain Boomerang, time and time again. This was the kind of setup that you normally only read about or saw in a soap opera. Really though there was no choice. Pulling out one of his normal boomerangs, he hesitated for just a moment and then let it fly, sending it right for the villains hand with the intent on knocking the gun away and saving the Flash. Yeah, being a hero wasn't always easy, but it was the right thing to do. Damn conscience.
"Sorry Cold, but I can't let you kill the Flash. They'd throw me out of the super-hero union if I did."
Yeah that's it, use false cocky confidence to make them all think that this was nothing more then another regular fight between good and evil. Maybe with any luck they'd buy it and not realize that Owen wanted to be doing anything but fight Cold. Yeah right, and maybe the Democrats would win back Congress.
