"Oh, please Barbara. We're in a social setting. Call me Lex."
Another sip.
"I haven't been planning any vacations exactly, but I do exchange phone calls with Lucius Fox on occasion. A good man, if not a bit hard-headed at times. He's turned down some mutually beneficial business deals at times. But I was merely wondering which city you consider home at this point. You've got your life set up here now with your family and history back in Gotham.

Barbara nodded. "I'm sorry.. LEX." she made sure to correct herself.
"Aw, that's a shame. A busy man like yourself with no vacation planning?? But then again, with all of the work you've been doing I don't see where you can fit a vacation in." She grinned back to him. "Just be sure that all work and no play makes Lex a dull boy." she winked.
"Well to be honest... I've been calling Metropolis home. I mean, sure my father is still in Gotham but here? I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders."

He smiled.
"That's what I like to hear. Another Metropolis convert. Do you speak with your father often? You must worry about him, what with his job and all. Not to mention the Batman putting everyone in harm's way all the time."
Luthor noticed their food being walked to the table. He leaned in closer to her, speaking softly.
"Cutting to the front of the line never gets old... don't tell anyone."
He gave her a wink.

Barbara chuckled at his comment. You know for being such an evil guy, he wasn't half bad. She was actually enjoying the time she was spending with the man. She made a motion of pulling a zipper across her lips. "I won't tell a soul." she winked back.
She took a moment to carefully place her words together. "You know... everyone makes Batman out to be some bad guy... he's not all that bad. He's just misunderstood." She motioned to him. "Kind of like you. A lot of people make you out to be the villain of whatever they want to throw at you-- though I know your causes for your actions have a better plan.
"The media can be such a circus at times.." she grumbled, taking another sip.

"And what's a circus... without a clown?"
Joker brought the tray of food down from his face to reveal a grin stretching from ear to ear. He set the tray down on a nearby tray-jack and took a seat with his back to the rest of the restaurant, but facing Lex and Barbara. He took a gun out of his pocket and placed it in front of him on the table.
"Hiya, Lex. Hiya, Babs."

Barbara sat up with a start. Was this really happening? No.. this couldn't be right. Joker. HERE? Something didn't sit right.
She rolled her eyes and proceeded to scoot away closer toward Lex in an effort to get farther away from the clown. Why the hell was here. She wanted to say something smart mouthed, but she realized she was in a more social setting. She had to watch her tongue.
She hated the clown. After all, he was the one that put the bullet in her that shattered her spine. No way she'd ever be able to forget that. Imprinted in the back of her mind.
What did he WANT?
"Hello.... Joker..." she drawled out.

"That's what I like. A warm welcome. Oh, excuse me..."
Joker reached over from his seat to their plates and set them down in front of them.
"Please. Eat, drink, be merry. I know I will," he said, snatching a green been off a Barbara's plate and crunching on it, making a disgusted face and spitting it out. He took a drink of Luthor's champagne to get rid of the taste.

Luthor knew exactly who it was the moment he heard the voice, but wished it was someone else for Barbara's sake. He knew what she'd been through with this man. He felt sorry for her. He watched as Joker took a seat, making himself comfortable.
"What do want, Joker? There must be a better time and place for this. Can't you see I have a guest?"
He put his hand on Barbara's arm to reassure her that things would be fine if they remained calm.

Barbara was genuinely surprised from Lex's reaction. Just having the clown there made her uneasy. She was keeping herself calm... for HIS sake. Silently she had to wonder where Black Canary was considering she was the last one keeping tabs on the jokster.
She made a mental note to contact Dinah later. No. She shouldn't do that. She should contact her now.. or at least send a distress beacon to a criminal sighting to have things taken care of. She knew damn well she wasn't going to be able to do it on her own.
Barbara twisted the ring on her finger uneasily and nervously scratched at the back of her ear. In reality, she was sending a silent beacon through her micro-earpiece to her computer system.
She wasn't going to take a chance. "You know it's considered rude when you just SHOW UP to dinner?" she commented.

"Ha! Lex, you make me laugh. You should know that some things just can't wait..."
Joker shot Barbara a look when she made her comment.
"You know, Babs. You really shouldn't make me mad. We all know what can happen when I'm in a good mood..."
He motioned toward her chair with his gun.
"You don't want to see what can happen when I'm in a bad one."

Luthor squeezed her arm, silently reprimanding her for speaking out of turn.
"Joker! Focus. What is it I can do for you this evening... before either of us lose our temper."

Barbara bit her lip internally. How she HATED that clown. She would mention it over and over again-- as many times as needed to remind herself that she REALLY hated that clown. Feeling's Lex's light squeeze, she grumbled internally. She hated playing possum. It really wasn't her cup of tea. The whole damsels in distress was a little too fairy tale for her liking.
For as much as she didn't want to, she apologized. "You're right. I'm sorry. I was out of line." she said quietly. That was about all that he was going to get out of her that time.
She shot Lex a worried glance before her eyes darted back to Joker.
What the hell was he up to?

A grin slowly spread across Joker's face, seeing Luthor was not going to be intimidated so easily.
"Oh, I don't wanna see that. Believe me, Lex."
Joker went ahead and slip Luthor's dinner from in front of him to himself. He picked up one of the lamb chops and started tearing the meat from the bone with his teeth, chewing loudly. He began to talk with his mouth full.
"Ya see... the thing is. I could use a favor."

Luthor raised an eyebrow. What could this clown possibly want that he would come to a public place and confront Luthor to get it. It didn't add up.
"What is it that you would like me to do for you, exactly?"
Lex grabbed his plate and set it back down in front of himself.
"If you don't mind."
He picked up his cutlery and started to eat, cutting one of his roasted potatoes. Before he brought his fork up to his mouth he shot Joker a look.
"Chew with your mouth closed."

The air was beginning to get tense, and Barbara was starting to get annoyed with Joker's presence. She was trying to behave, however. Not saying anything to him out loud. If anything, her mind were a buzz with possible 'what if' scenarios of what she wanted to do to him.
All of course, not in a public setting.
Damn the venue!
Having the Joker here within inches of her didn't help anything. If it were just she and Joker, her reaction would be a hell of a lot different-- but since Lex was here... this whole 'act' needed a different kind of show.
Fear and disgust.
She really couldn't afford to pull attention to herself. The last thing she wanted to do was do something to catch this crazy lunatic's eye..... again.
She fiddled with her earring 'nervously' as she inched closer to Lex's side. Hoping that the night's actions were being picked up by her system at home.
