Following her directions I find the access exactly where she directs me. Internally it looks like one thing, but in reality her hidden cameras have me in their sights. Likely the entire building is outfitted to some degree with all types of security measures. She is still formidable as a fighter using misconceptions against any foes and he had no doubt she would be able to fight him off if she thought she had to.
Bruce once spoke of his training sessions with Henri Ducard (later known to be Ra's Al-Ghul). 'Ducard' during one session held on the surface of a frozen lake spoke the words "training is nothing, will is everything...". 'Ducard' was intent in molding Bruce into a protege that could one day succeed him. However for all the similarities that exist between Ra's and Bruce, there were still things that made Bruce refuse the destiny that the Demon had in mind for him. Ra's Al-Ghul is no stranger to taking lives to attain his goals, but Batman, he doesn't kill despite the tightrope temptations brought forth by the likes of Joker.
Still Joker's actions have driven Batman to the brink and even the same could be said of Gordon. Both when Joker shot Barbara at point blank range, which is how she began her carthartic journey towards Oracle and when Joker killed Sarah Essen Gordon. Both experiences really tried the mettle of James Gordon, but Batman had been around to temper his ally, his friend from the very thing Joker sought to bring out of the commissioner.
As for Batman, there are whole cemeteries fuller because of Joker and besides Sarah, there is also Jason Todd among countless others. None are forgotten and as forgiveness goes that's more towards the survivors of Joker's actions. I haven't had the 'fortune' to experience Joker firsthand, but his handiwork is evident whenenver I have been close to or worked with someone who has 'survived' the Clown Prince of Crime.
Barbara as Oracle overshadows what the Joker has done to her and to her family yet for her as well as others - the stain/taint will always be there. Why do I think of events' past when I'm this close to a 'reunion' with Oracle?
My thinking is like that - so one might as well accuse me of apophenia.
These things happened. I don't have to live with the memories or the ghosts, but I have my share of both. I look to others like Oracle for ways to deal with my pain, with my memories, and most of all my ghosts. We are trying to find our way without him.
I can hear Oracle and Misfit talking about Arrow. Doubts about whether its him or not. Of course Oracle talks about equipment being exclusive, but all aren't immune to copycats as Misfit puts it in a way.
Getting lost in my thoughts in the elevator broke my sense of continuity. Tangents suspend my perception of time. So prone to them I am.
"More than just anything out of the ordinary applies if what I suspect is true..."
I wager in their reverie chat, my entrance into the room went unheard though I suspect Oracle 'sensed' me as she looks right into the darkened doorway where I stand as I make that announcement.

It's amazing what a simple pep-talk could do.
Charlie knew that 'Misfit' as never going to be the world's greatest hero. She knew that school children would never go to class wearing shirts with big, stylized 'M's on their chests. She knew that she would most likelly never be welcomed, open arms, into the Justice League, or even the Teen Titans. And deep down, it didn't bother Charlie because she was still helping the world. But lately, this rut she was in hurt her alot more then she would ever reveal.
However, as soon as Barbara Gordon's most-talented of hands touched her arm, suddenly, everything felt better. Just a few simple words of advice, and everything was in perspective. it doesn't matter if there isn't any crime to stop because that is the ultimate goal of the hero: to build towards a world that doesn't need heroes.
Misfit's smile grew, but she knew it was time for business.
"A second pair of eyes? You got it boss. Just tell me where, and I'll bounce over there faster then you can say 'behold my power'."
In retrospect, Charlie thought that she may very well be the most ideal person for this mission by default. Green Arrow, from what she heard, was a man with alot of friends. A man who has had alot of team-ups, and vicariously, had his hands in alot of pockets. Batman, Robin, Nightwing, and even the likes of Spoiler and Ragman have all worked with the Emerald Archer before, and at the end of the day, had alot of respect for him. It was obvious that Arrow didn't want to be found, and if any of them were able to catch up with him, they would try and talk him into seeing their way, most likelly leading to Green Arrow fleeing the scene (Black Canary told her time after time how fast he is) with nothing but an arrow to the shoulder for their effort.
Misfit was different. Not only did she not know who Green Arrowwas, but frankly, she didn't care. All she had to do was touch him, and he would be bounced right to Oracle awaiting feet. All she needed was a chance.

As for the subject of Oliver Queen aka Green Arrow, his last encounter with Merlyn left Queen's home city in ruins, a city's devastation is immeasurable and the bombs made for a death toll in the tens of thousands. Queen is by all accounts among the dead though unlike Wayne, reports of his demise are exaggerations meant to protect Green Arrow's allies such as Roy Harper, his former partner, Star City's counterpart to Nightwing and before that counterpart to Robin. Other allies include Connor Hawke, his son from a dalliance with Sandra Hawke whom he was intimate with during his college years. Mia Dearden took Harper's place as Arrow's partner.
Still one images that Mia is still troubled by at one particular death during the Star City bombings. Something that likely haunts many of Arrow's Star City allies. The death of Roy's daughter Lian something that Roy is shown as blaming her for leaving Lian alone to deal with the bombs and Electrocutioner.
The true purpose of the bombs came too late and Lian along with thousands of others died.
Roy has yet to forgive her, if he can ever forgive, and it was Rose who came to her defense at the funeral.
Mia as Speedy went after Electrocutioner because of Lian yet it was Green Arrow who kept her from killing in the name of avenging Lian Harper. Vengeance begets vegeance and so feeds the cycle. If anything the remaining Star City costumes need Green Arrow more than Gotham does yet like me I begin to think that Green Arrow is also on a walkabout.
However the circumstances that brought us to Gotham are not the same.
Just as Gotham is stumbling without a Batman, Star City is crumbling without a Green Arrow.
Hub City seems in better shape than either Gotham or Star. At least outwardly it looks as such.
Am I right about why Arrow is in Gotham? What would Black Canary make of him being here?
So the questions amass and so without answers for myself I begin thinking of others' troubles. Such is another of my habits. Underneath all these trappings, we are deeply flawed personalities, but we are real, as real as any of us can be in a world like this one.

As Barbara parked herself back in front of here holo-monitors, she checked on Question's assent.
"There's a couple of places I'd love it if you checked out.." she told Charlie over her shoulder. "One of those places being Gotham's waterfront. Near the pier on the east side... From there... to the Roger's Basin."
She sat back for a moment, trying to recall the path she had in mind for Misfit to follow but was soon interrupted by a familiar voice.
As the doors to the lift opened, there was Question's form, silhouetted by shadows to show an almost ghostly figure.
With the way he seemed to suddenly appear, it only seemed to enhance to his seemingly 'mysterious' nature.
"They REALLY need to cut you a movie deal already..." she said to Question in greeting. "Add some fog machines and a couple of wide angled shots? Movie gold."
Upon hearing his spoken word, she exhaled. Back to the pressing matter of the 'sleeper operation' she had been turning over in her mind.
"When they lay low is always the time that I really start to worry." she mumbled inaudibly.
This time, she projected her voice a bit more. "If what you suspect IS true.. as I mentioned before, we're going to be in a world of hurt.. And the only thing that's really on our side is the gap of time."
Pulling herself from system, she turned back to Misfit. "If you find anything out of place. No matter how minute. Let me know. Keep your lenses on so I'll have a visual feed." She gave a weak to smile. "I really hope you've got a bit of caffeine in your system...
"Something tells me.. it's going to be a long night."

"The icons often have homages, which alternate between true to the actual person in the guise of a fictional character and someone whose only link to reality is name only semblance."
I think she's using humor again yet even I can misread people. Mistakes are made yet consequences are not always symmetrical to the error.
"Also the clock is ticking... whatever Calculator is up to is already in motion and closing the gap is perhaps our only way out of the trap."
Leave it me to paraphrase from Frank Herbert's Dune Chronicles and usually I quoting or borrowing concepts from the dead.
"Any chances of having a tea kettle in your kitchen?"
Unlike some costumes, I don't take well to coffee and because of Sensei I have been a tea drinker for countless years now.
"Alfred always had a hot kettle at the ready. Whether it was drinking, dipping, or any other range of needs. The butler was always much more than a butler or so I have come to think."
Bruce kept the manor, the butler, and as for the money someone else would have to manage Wayne Enterprises in lieu of his demise. Bruce's only biological heir is Damian and as for Talia - she is usually never far from her father Ra's.
It wouldn't surprise me if he, she, or both would use the League of Shadows (or Assassins) to exact an often foiled plan to remake the world by measures that Batman would never use.
As for Damian, he would need a paternal or at least fraternal figure, the better candidate in that category would be Dick. I wouldn't run it pass Jason, as he lacks the kind of temperament suited to the task of guiding Damian towards the kind of man his father was. --------------------------- [also I have consistently tried to use the (?) icon with every post]

"I'll start with the waterfront. Everyone knows about 'The Wash', the underlevel area where most of Gotham's homeless settle. If Green Arrow is in town, that might be a fairly decent place to check."
Misfit looked back as the Question stood in the doorway. Almost immediatly, her territorial mindset kicked in. In her mind, for the 'great and powerful' Oracle to allow Misfit into her lair was a badge of honor. Something to only be given to a select few. A chance of a lifetime that so few could actually gain to experience. Yet, there he is...
The Question.
Mizfit had never personally met the Question, but just as her opinion with Green Arrow, she already knew she didn't like him. That mask. That coat. That hat. It was like he robbed a flasher on his way to a sci-fi convention. Yet, as differing from Green Arrow, Misfit knew absolutely nothing about the Question. He had always fought in a different tactic then her. Gritty. In the streets. Overly violent, if need be. In her heart, Misfit always saw herself as more of a pacafist, defensive fighter, as opposed to the type that would go out specifically looking for trouble.
Her nerves weren't anymore settled by that mask. Seriously...what the hell?
Charlie always enjoyed the fact that her uniform was very simple, complete with a deep-purple domino mask. It kept her identity hidden while, at the same time, allow her teammates and co-workers to see the eyes behind the mask, knowing that there was actually a person behind the Misfit. Charlie thought the Question was different. Deep down, he was a faceless man, and would always be a faceless man. How was she ever to actually trust a man with no face?
But, it was neither here, nor there.
"Thanks, Oracle. I'll look into it."
Misfit gave Oracle a gentle smile which vanished immediatly after she looked at Question again. She puffed out her chest, trying to come off as casual, as she walked past the man with no face going towards the lift. Soon, as the stood side by side for a split second, Misfit's eyes met where the Question's would be. She couldn't help it. Her youth got the better of her, and as her eyes met Question's, she blinked.
Once she passed him, Misfit finally took a much needed breath, the awkward encounter taking alot more from her then she thought it would. However, now that that was over, it was time to put her gameface on. Misfit was heading to the Wash.
She has an Emerald Archer to find.
With a thrust of her arms up, Misfit closed her eyes, and in a blast of neon-pink, she was gone, bouncing into action.
*blink!*

Misfit's discomfort heavily transparent even more so as she pasts me on the way out to begin her search for Green Arrow let her track the archer. I don't have time to waste persuading her that I'm not her enemy. I seldom leave Hub City because making friends is literally impossible with other costumes who look at me the way she does, not the way Oracle does, but what I can expect. Still I think back to the times where Batman had recruited me in the Justice League.
It was like going back in time to school where I was often the one eating alone, avoiding social contact, and thinking more than speaking.
What are they so afraid of? Is it that I don't show my face? Everyone in this room wears masks. Some are literal, others are psychological, and the rest are of other varieties or variable. Faces, eyes, names, but to go further risks paranoia... babel... madness.
After Misfit is gone, I mumble something to myself.
"Impossible to gain trust in the face of fear."
I remove my fedora, set it down on the counter, and use the aerosol before removing my mask. My hair reverts to its true color and the bruisings I endured in fighting Riddler's hench women are visible.
"Faceless perhaps... still I bleed like anyone else..."
Seldom do I reveal myself so clearly to anyone.
"Misfit will find Green Arrow and find vindication in her myth of him. I can't blame her, she trusts him without meeting him and she fears me at only a glance."
I tend to my face while waiting on Oracle to do or say something more. I'd expect her to counter my assessment of her protege. Of course this sort of reaction happen when I first met each of Batman's various Robins except Jason Todd who is nowadays acting as the Red Hood. My appearance didn't seem to trouble him as it did or does the other Robins.
Usually Batman's silences in conversations like this either meant he didn't disagree or he didn't find point in refuting my interpretation. I wasn't doing this to make friends, to have fun or other personal things.
Still the walkabout seems to necessitate revealing myself to someone. It might as well be Oracle, she's worked with masks all her career.

Barbara made sure to keep the connection between herself and Misfit active the moment she 'bounced' from sight. She knew that with Charlie on the case, that the girl was sure to find SOMEthing. Even if it was something along the lines of a completely unrelated matter.
Charlie had skills like that.
Barbara felt a bit guilty for not not voicing it enough to her. She knew it would probably be something that she would love to hear.
No...
That wouldn't do it.
She made a mental note to do something endearing for their newest member of the team. She had an idea of something she might get a kick out of. BUT... business first. Play later.
Barbara spoke into her com to make sure the connection was going through after her latest 'port. "Misfit... can you read me?"
Making her way back to where her guest was sitting, Barbara opened one of the cupboards and grabbed a embellished Bat-emblem mug to start making a cup of tea.
As she put the water on the stove to boil, she turned back to face the man sitting before her. Was this really the first time that she had come face-to-face with the quirky conspiracy theorist? She had spent so many hours behind the monitor that anyone she had seen on her monitor seemed just as real as any other tangible subject that crossed her path. Only... slightly different.
Was that what video game addicted people felt like? So entranced in their virtual realities that even the actuality of reality felt like a day in front of the monitor.
'I need to get distance myself a bit better on my days off...' she thought to herself.
She furrowed her brow before opening up another cupboard and pulled out a few bottles and cotton balls of varying ointments and antiseptic. "I'm used to my soldiers coming back to me in worse than than the average shape."
Dabbing a bit of Vitamin E on a cotton ball, she reached out to one of the larger bruises on the side of his face. Whatever knocked him, knocked him pretty good. "I don't have any ice cream right now to do my normal routine I pull with Canary and Misfit.... but I have some yogurt that is frosted and works just as well for that 'soothing' factor if you'd like."
She smiled weakly. "It's only because you're still an unknown to her." At least.. that was what she thought it must have been with Charlie. "It's like the saying goes: There are known knowns and there are known unknowns. But there are also unknown unknowns-- things we don't know. And you.... classify as the known unknown to Misfit... in a sense, at least."

She gives me tea, which helps the soreness lingering from the blows I took from Query and Echo. I was wrong to presume Riddler would be going out at night alone. Every supervillain comes with henchmen (or women in Riddler's case). All this reminds me of the first time I met Richard Dragon, a man I call Sensei, and he often calls me Butterfly.
"Found Riddler heading towards the Stacked Deck, I'm certain you're familiar with the regulars who go there. Its been awhile since I had opponents who could fight as they do. By they I mean Riddler's duo."
A look of recognition glimmers in her eyes even as she tends to my bruised face.
"Yes those two. Query and Echo... I fought them off... took them down. Then I went after Riddler and that's how he came to be in the box."
I would do utmost not to underestimate those who work for supervillains again lest I pay a great price than these bruises, cuts, and such. It would likely be more fatal with Harley Quinn or Poison Ivy.
"Yogurt would be nice.... just no mystery flavors..."
Thought back to a mundane find at a Baskins Robbins cold storage unit.
I wonder if Black Canary has also gone in search of Green Arrow despite or in spite of what happen between them in the past.
"So what does Dinah make of the archer sightings?"
It is clear that even a tight knit flock of birds don't always know what another is up to, not right away that is.
"Naturally you're right about Misfit's behavior towards me. She hasn't been around me as much as the rest of the Bat Family."
There aren't many costumes I feel at home around either or people for that matter. Oracle is one of few that I can let my guard down around.
There is also much to admire about her. I could have taken care of my own wounds, but some times even I need reaffirmation of reality, of human contact, of trusting someone. For this moment in time that would be Oracle.
I sip more of the tea and ponder what she now makes of my tango with Riddler.

Barbara quirked an eyebrow when she heard him mention Query and Echo. "You know what I find amusing?" she said, dabbing a bit of antiseptic to the cuts on his face. "You, Nygma, Query and Echo...." she grinned just faintly. "That's a piece of internet superhero fan fiction if I ever heard of such an encounter." She paused, looking back to him.
Did she just out herself to him? That she was amongst one of the many out on the web that dabbed in one of the nets's greatest passtimes?
Of course.
But then again, she did a lot more than those entrusted enough to call her a friend would even know.
After all.. it kind of was her job to investigate that stuff. Even the fun stuff, from time to time
"What? Don't tell me you've never done an internet search on yourself and see all kinds of things that pop up. You'd... be very surprised at the creations others have come up with and posted out there."
Making her way to the fridge, she managed to find one of the cups of not frozen yogurt. Popping the lid and retrieving a spoon from a near-by drawer she handed them both to him. "I hope cherry-pomegranate is alright."
Hearing the mention about Dinah pained her slightly. A lot had happened within the last two years... and the close-knit friendship that the two had shared was... a bit awkward.
Ever since the mess with Star City and Ollie.. things had been a mess.
"She's... on a case." She honestly wasn't sure where. All she knew was that she was in a dense jungle forest somewhere in Asia. Well that was the last time she checked.
It's been months since she was aware of her last coordinates. She figured if Dinah wanted to talk.. she would do it on her own terms.
She was always good for keeping that hell-bent-stubborn attitude with her.
Much like herself. And that was what she loved. Dinah was her perfect female balance.
It could also be reason why that added hole within her just... didn't 'feel' right. "I really couldn't tell you how she feels on the matter. I haven't spoken to her in a while."

"I'm aware of what some write about me. Things I'd walked away from because of personal qualms, of philosophical misgivings, and more such as Huntress. She if you'll recall hit her lowest when even Batman felt she could have been Claudio Panessa's murderer."
The things we both found and did during those weeks are hard to forget yet the possibilities that did not happen here could have happen in other realities.
"On parallel Earths, I'm a woman, an A.I., on another Earth Renee took his place as the Question when he died of cancer, and of course like some of those shipper fictions as they call themselves I'm involved with Huntress."
It brought me back to the night that we nearly kissed if not for Tim Drake's arrival at her window with information. Revealations that would reshape her tactics towards her blackmailing father because on this Earth, Helena Bertinelli is the daugther of Don Cassamento and Maria Panessa Bertinelli.
"On that Earth, you are still... Batgirl... there is no Birds of Prey though you have worked with Black Canary and Huntress."
Black Canary is still with Oliver Queen on that Earth, recently married too and as for Huntress, she's an aspiring teacher like she already is here.
"On that Earth, Helena's parents were murdered by Steven Mandragora, something she thought she was bound to avenge, but her going to that Question changed her plan. Of course Edgar Mandragora in some respects reminded her of her child self watching her parents die."
Oracle's pained expression halts my rambling. Talking about her 'Birds' makes her unbend as I have by coming here or maybe that's what I'm reading from all this.
"So she's been incommunicado that long... guess I'm not the only one going off-the-map here."
My face hurts much less thanks to Barbara's attentiveness. I imagine Alfred has been going through moments like these since Bruce took up the mantle.
"If Alfred could see you now... hot tea... bed side manner..."
I guess I was trying to lighten the mood my arrival seem to have brought with me.

after what seems like an even longer flight than usual Dinah finally finds herself back in Gotham City. Its been quite awhile since she had set foot here though by the looks of it so far not much has changed, same old grime as usual. She wasn't quite ready to make her presence here known yet to babs or anyone really she just needed a few days to adjust to civilization and get back into the loop. Babs would most likely have a tap on her old apartment if she went there so best option would be a luxurious grand hotel room for the time being.
After checking in and taking a much needed long luxurious bath Dinah decided to try and catch up on what has been going on in Gotham as of late picking up a few of the papers that the lobby store had to offer. Grabbing a iced mocha she got comfortable in the lobby chair and began to read.
The first paper had nothing important, just local gossip but the headline of the next certainly caught her attention. Green Arrow In Gotham....that is not possible, who would be pretending to be Ollie... she quickly read on. Confused and Slightly angry at the thought that someone would be parading around Gotham pretending to be Ollie Dinah knew there was only one person she could go to to find out all the information that is out there.
Quickly making her way across town Dinah soon saw the familiar looming of that giant tower. Making her way up to her once best friends home not really sure on where they even stand at the moment...Dinah made her way up to the top following the tight security protocols needed to get into the oracle lair. Heading through the final door Dinah burst out with little control over the anger that had continued to burn inside of her since she read the article.
"You don't think something like this should have been brought to my attention?" She holds up the paper.
"I can't believe you didn't contact me when you first heard about this...What do you know?" After the words came out Dinah realized they probably sounded harsh but at this point she really didn't care...in fact she really didn't care about anything anymore.

Barbara attempted to clean up the small mess that had accumulated since she started on Question's mild medical treatment. If anything, the antiseptics and ointments she applied would at least assist in faster healing. "So you ARE familiar with those stories."
She was honestly rather amused.
She didn't know too many of the hero types who openly admitted to viewing some of the.. things that circled the internet that wielded their names. "Seems that others have quite an imagination when it comes to the way certain events have played out.
"It really makes you wonder how many other worlds there are out there that parallel our own. We're aware of some ourselves here, but... I know there's got to be countless others.
"It's a nice thought to think that.. maybe He is still around.. taking down a crook in some dark corner of a Gotham Alley."
She of course was referring to Batman.
She paused a moment thinking about that before she responded to his next statement. She smiled very weakly. "I'm more patient with some of my patients than others--"
She heard her system chirp in her ear. Very inaudible to to her guest.
{Access lift has been engaged.}
She blinked, quirking an eyebrow.
"Identify." she spoke aloud, giving the command to her system to identify the person heading up the access lift to her door.
{Lance. Dinah.}
At that moment the doors to her flat opened to show none other than the plain clothes Black Canary. Swirling blonde locks framing her face-- her face that was most indefinitely in a very unhappy mode.
Barbara was floored.
Talk about an off-guard moment.
It took her a moment to process everything. It was apparent she had heard about Ollie's return... and she had absolutely no idea of what to make of it. "I was just made aware of the situation myself..." she explained trying to keep her cool.
She knew she needed to stay calm in order to keep the peace. If anything... to try and get Dinah to calm down. Barbara knew her head had to have been working a million miles a minute. "I WOULD have contacted you if I COULD have..."

"Please your saying that with that giant computer thingy that you sit in front of practically 24 hours a day you could find no way to contact me?" Dinah tried to calm herself but it was to no avail she was livid.
It took her a minute to realize they weren't alone but at the moment she wasn't feeling very social. "I haven't even been in this city for more than a couple of hours and I read it on the front page of a newspaper... you're telling me you know nothing more than what some crackpot reporter has? Your supposed to be the eyes and the ears of this city." Dinah dropped the the paper on the table in front of Barbara and ran her hand through her hair in frustration.

Barbara had to give it to Dinah on that one. Even when she was extremely cheesed off at something... or someone she somehow found a way to call her computer system a 'giant computer thingy'.
"I've been trying to locate you for the past four months!" she said to her calmly as she folded her arms acorss her chest. "The lasts signal I've been able to pick up from your communicator was in the western jungles of Malaysia. Even my FAIL safe transponder in the circuitry failed. So either your com was destroyed to the fullest extent by accident or you made sure that you didn't WANT to be found."
She really wanted to yell back. She was trying so hard not to. She kept her face stern however. making sure that she only heard the facts. "I figured if and when you were ready to contact me... you would."
She gave a motion to Question still occupying one of her bar stools. "I'm actually doing some intel gathering right now.
"I even have Misfit out on a special mission to track Arrow down. Or.. at least turn over boulders until something turns up."
She frowned. "Would you really think that I WOULDN'T look into something like this?"
