A little spit of land in the south pacific ocean, up until a year ago it was of no importance to anyone. Until of course, they came. Every mad scientist in the world was brought together by Intergang with the purpose of seeing what they could do when given unlimited resources and free reign to go wild with inventing. The end result being the creation of the Four Horsemen, the Death of Black Adam's family and the devastating World War Three. However, they didn't stop at that. No just a few weeks ago, the assembled geniuses decided to become their own sovereign nation. It was really rather brilliant on their part for it now put them above any law. Of course, for the man called Noah Kuttler aka The Calculator, it had the added bonus of his being given citizenship and full diplomatic immunity as payment for services rendered. He was now 100% untouchable by any of the worlds heroes. Such an event would result in huge crime waves by almost anyone else, at one point Noah would have done just that. However, he hadn't cared to do any of it. In the past few months he had dropped from being one of the big players in evil to a simple information broker. Almost right back were he started. He just didn't have the fire anymore for anything else, he had given his most hated foes his best shot and he got nothing. For all intents and purposes the Calculator was retired. Or at least, he was until 17 hours ago. That was when he recieved word of a new break through made on Oolong Island, one that they were scrapping just as quickly as they figured out what they had. 15 hours ago when he got his hands on everything that remained of it, including the final prototypes and samples. 12 hours ago since he had his new underground lair modified to be all but impenetrable and very well stocked with supplies, including some very important safety measures. 9 hours ago since he had finished his distribution method. 5 hours since all of his government and military contacts were used to complete the final phase of his plan. And 1 hour ago since the new weapon had arrived. Looking at it through security monitors, Noah allowed a smile to creep across his face. He knew they would stop it, no matter how well he planned the heroes would most likely come out on top. He harbored no delusions about that. But he knew, oh yes he knew that the price of victory would be so very high that it would be more of a win for Noah. If he couldn't kill them, then he would crush their spirit. And maybe one or two of them might die in the process. Yes, that old fire was starting to come back, now he just had to wait a few more minutes......

As Barbara Gordon's fingers hovered over her keyboard, the light of the Metropolis setting sun bled through the western window. Her console beeped a few times indicating someone was on one of her lines waiting for assistance. Rubbing the tiredness from her eyes, she pressed a series of keys allowing for the call to come through.
"What's the word, Animal Man?" she breathed, allowing her voice synthesizers override her true voice.
Animal Man had been running routine recon here and there for her over the last few days. She had every hero and every lone agent working in time with her. Since the last events occurred everyone all seemed to have been on high alert.
Even though the dust was starting to settle there seemed to be more happening at the current moment than what the naked eye could essentially see.
"Something's wrong, Oracle." Animal Man's voice held essence of concern. "The animals aren't behaving normally."
Bringing up a central location on Animal Man's position, she realized his Californian position gave lue to questions. "What are you doing out in--"
"I needed to check into something. All the signs were telling me to go west."
"Your location could be centered about twenty-five thousand to the east."
"Yeah, I know, but hear me out--" Animal Man's hand reached out to a passing deer. "It's like..... they're all running from something."
Barbara quirked an eyebrow. "Running....? From what....?"

Dinah did her rounds for the night rounding up a few criminals here and there. Metropolis was definitly a lot different that Gotham. It was a nice change for once. Not as much pollution, the people were nicer hell even the criminals were better. A girl could get used to this. She continued to patrol but things were really slow tonight....a little to slow.
"Oracle do you have any hits for me to check out or shall I head in for the night cause its pretty dead out here..."

Hearing Dinah's voice come through her speakers, Barbara blinked. "Hang, Buddy. I've got Canary on my other line."
"Rodger, dodger!" Animal Man chimed back, his eyes still watching the situation he had going on before him.
Switching her lines, Barbara dropped her voice synthesizer to speak with Dinah. Dinah was one of the few heroes that she would drop the voice masker for. Besides, whenever she used it, she always noticed that it had the tendency of creeping Dinah out moreso. "I'm glad you checked in..." she started.
"Something strange is going on. I'm not entirely sure... but I've been speaking with Animal Man and the west coasts animals all seem to.... They seem to be reacting to an alarming disturbance. Almost like how dogs and cats get all finicky when an earthquake is about to hit. Only... on a larger scale.
"I can't really give you any direct locations but rather I have a question for you: Have you been noticing the behaviors of any of the animals in Metropolis?"
It was a simple question that could easily be overlooked and never realized until placed in the observance window... but it had to be asked.
The question still laid from within her mind: What could possibly get the animals so worked up?

"well I haven't really noticed anything.....the zoo is near by i'll check it out" Dinah quickly made her way the few short blocks to the metropolis zoo. "Things seem quite down here Oracle." she walked around a little bit stopping at the monkey cage. She had always had a fascination with the monkeys since she was a little girl. They were just to cute. Suddenly the Monkeys started making a fuss yelling and grabbing at the cage as if they were trying to escape something. "well things were peaceful at the zoo oracle....." The other animals could soon be heard throughout the zoo.
"What do you think is coming?"

The Iceberg Lounge had finally been redesigned, rebuilt, and redecorated. If you asked Oswald Cobblepot, the new club was far superior to the old one in many ways. He especially liked his comfy new office chair.
Penguin was going over papers, reading through business proposals late that night. He was the only one left in the building, so he expected peace and quiet...
He didn't get it for long.
Out on the main floor, in the penguin habitat, there was a disturbance. Cobblepot rose from his chair, grabbed a flame-throwing umbrella, and walked out into the club. When he looked down into the habitat he saw the penguins swimming frantically. The ones who were on the iceberg in the center were squawking as if something was going to attack them.
"...what the hell is going on?"

Waiting on Dinah's response, she switched channels clicking back over to Baker's line. "I don't know what's going on, Buddy-- but Maybe it's just in your area--"
It was then when she heard Dinah's voice that she cut her sentence short. "Hang on Buddy--"
"Gotcha--" came his reply.
"You mean to tell me the animals' behavior hit a new node?"
This really wasn't good. "I really have no idea what's going on, Dinah. But... it can't be good. Give me one second--"
Switching channels once more she pulled Animal Man back on the line. "It seems the animals in Gotham aren't as quiet either. I'm going to get a hold of Arthur and an agent in Metropolis to check things out. I have a feeling that if this is going on the animals all over should be reacting. I'll check back with you. Notify me if the mood changes, will ya?"
Checking her monitors she frowned. "There's a disturbance near the water's edge. Eastern dock. How fast can you get there?"

Dinah walked around the zoo a little more why she waited for Oracle's response. She has never seen the animals react like this. Her gut feeling was telling her this was bad real bad...after awhile Barbara finally perked back up in her ear.
"I can be at the docks in about 10 mins" Dinah quickly fled the zoo and jumped on her bike heading for the docks.

Taking a rather large bite out of his apple, Noah was wandering around his new lair. To be fair, it wasn't much different from any other lair. At least to look at from the inside. The fact that it was a dozen stories underground, with five generators, water and air filtration, stocked with food and re-enforced and shielded so much that the League would have trouble knocking, was what made it new. In short, Kuttler was living a the worlds most high tech and indestructible bunker. Which is exactly what he wanted, because what he was about to set loose, well it was a scary thought but he'd have no real control over it. Odd, he fought so long to have control over everything and now, he was just throwing it all away. Shaking his head, he looked at the apple and decided against finishing it. With a lazy toss, the fruit ended up in the waste basket, right next to the full and unopened bottle of prescription meds.
Sitting down in his chair, he sent off a quick message to several Senators and two generals, while they weren't in his pocket, they would respond just how Noah wanted. It was the last measure of control he'd have for a long time. With the flip of a switch, three seperate locking mechanisms on three separate containers were primed. One was located in the sewers near Metropolis General. The other was nestled in an ally on Suicide Slum. The final was located, where else, but on the docks. His finger paused for a moment and hovered over the button that would disengage the locks and open the containers. He knew it was crazy, but he could almost swear he could hear the moans and snarls of what was inside, the he could hear the sound of flesh slowly yet relentlessly pounding against the containers. Unconsciously fingering the ring on his left hand, he pushed the button. It was out of his hands now.
With a dull thud, the fronts came off of each container, kicking up dust and debris. In the sewers, there was nothing but rats to notice the moldy feet slogging through the water, some dragging, some stomping, all moving with a single minded purpose 15 shapes marching down the tunnels heading towards the surface, heading towards the hospital. In the slums and alleys of Metropolisis seedy underbelly, 15 more shapes came lurching out into the dark night. Only this time, a few curious hobos and tramps were there to witness their arrival. A few unfortunet souls who soon fell screaming and terrified before the rotting talons and yellowed teeth of their attackers, the putrid breath confirming that the unthinkable before them was real. The last thing they'd ever know, before eventually they too would join their former killers on the march.
Finally at the docks, three night watchmen and a half dozen longshoremen were all wishing that they worked the day shift as they ran through the maze of crates and warehouses from not only the 15 decayed attackers in their crate, but the two dozen of their fellow workers and other assortied rif raf that were always present on the docks. The two dozen that now swelled the ranks of the ghoulish pursuers. The now small mob that slowly spread out through the docks, picking off anyone foolish enough to not be with the temporary safety of the main group of survivors. Adding more and more to their ranks, while devouring several to satisfy and unholy hunger. Here under the lights from the warehouses could the attackers be seen for the first time.
The walking dead.
